With it’s origin dating as far back as the 15th century; and a history shaped by a fusion of cultures consisting of Arabic, Spanish, Italian and Mexican; Talavera tile is the perfect example of the blending of cultures to create art.
In Mexico, Talavera tile is rich in tradition and therefore its creation is protected not only by its creators and artisans but by the Mexican government as well. Talavera is hand made and hand crafted by experienced artisans. The colors of Talavera are bright and festive, although traditional and genuine Talavera is made using only six colors, those being dark blue, light blue, green, yellow, orange, and black. Different regions of Mexico have created their own visions of Talavera depicting the colors of their region. These varying versions of Talavera are also hand made and hand crafted keeping with the traditions of true Talavera.
